The Cartographers by Peng Shephard

As a lifelong lover of maps, their mystery, beauty, and the stories they hold, I found The Cartographers a captivating mix of mystery, magic and obsession This tale pulled me in with its suspense, layered characters, and the irresistible allure of maps. Author Peng Shephard weaves family secrets, deep friendships, and romance into a story where flawed choices often carry a heavy weight.

The plot builds slowly, but soon becomes impossible, but soon becomes impossible to put down, centering on a map dismissed as worthless that turns out to hold a deadly secret, Murder, betrayal and obsession unfold with masterful storytelling that makes the impossible feel believable. Where the human complexity of the characters grounds the more fantastical elements of the story, making it both relatable and immersive.

Though I managed to predict elements of the ending, the journey was so satisfying it didn’t lessen my enjoyment. I look forward to exploring more of Peng Shephard’s work. I highly recommend it.
